ALTHA, FL – Altha basketball is preparing to open the 2024-25 season this week. They played Covenant Christian Tuesday night, but results were not available prior to press time. Thursday, they traveled to Wewahitchka and Friday, they host Wakulla Christian at 5 p.m. They return four starters and are still really young this season, but expect them to improve as the season goes.
Below are the player capsules:
•Mason Hill- 6’6″ Junior Forward/Center. A two year starter that has averaged double digits in scoring and rebounding the past two seasons. Mason got injured late last season, but has been healthy and improving his mid-range game.
•Aiden VanZant- 5’10” Junior Guard. Aiden averaged double figures last season. Shot 56% from the 3 pt. line. This year, he has improved his jump shot and rebounding and is becoming a good all-around player.
•Aiden Grover- 6’2″ Sophomore point guard. A returning starter from last season where he averaged 6 ppg, 4apg and 4.3 rpg. He improves daily as he takes over the role of point guard. A good all around player and will only get better.
•Saxon Smith- 6′ Junior forward. Saxon is a good shooter and a good worker. Saxon has the size and physique to be a force and is working to fulfill that potential.
•Will O’Bryan- 6′ Junior guard that played a lot of minutes last season. Will rotate on point and other guard. Quick and a great defender that does whatever his team needs to lead them.
•Riley Rowe- 5’7 Senior. Riley has always been a good shooter. This year, he has made tremendous strides developing his game and led the Cats’ in pre-season classic with 5 steals.
•Tripp Hill- 6’3 Junior. Tripp only started playing basketball two years ago and with a great off-season and has improved more than anyone in the program. He adds physicality to the Wildcats.
•Joby Braden- 6′ Junior. Joby has only played a couple years as well and continues to develop. A nice athlete and improves daily as he learns the game.
•Cayden Jones- 6’2″ Sophomore. A beast. He just started playing basketball and is raw. He improves daily. He adds physicality and athleticism as he learns the game. In pre-season game versus John Paul, Cayden had 16 rebounds in 16 minutes. As he learns the game, it will get harder to keep him off the floor.
