HOSFORD – As of 9:30 p.m. this evening, no serious injuries have been reported from the tornado that tore through Hosford this afternoon.
“The roads are cleared enough so that people can get in and out but they’ve still got a mess over there,” said Liberty County Emergency Management Director Rhonda Lewis.
“One or two houses were totally destroyed, probably four or five homes had major damage and at least 25 had minor damage,” she said.
Lewis, along with Liberty County School Superintendent Kyle Peddie had high praise for the staff at Hosford School who kept students safe as the storm roared through town just before they were due to leave for the day.
“They got the tornado alert, acted on it and knew what to do,” Lewis said. She said they had about 30 minutes’ notice before it hit.
Due to the power outage, all Liberty County schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, April 28.
Peddie addressed tomorrow’s school closure on his facebook page, explaining, “This will also give us time to assess bus routes and check for any damage in our buildings. Please keep in your thoughts and prayers those who lost homes today. I will inform you regarding school for Monday via ParentSquare and on my personal Facebook page on Sunday afternoon. I’m very grateful to all our school personnel who did a fantastic job today keeping our students safe during and after the storm. We have the best employees!!!”
