Driver run over and killed after
exiting his own truck and trailer
MARIANNA, FL – A 62-year-old Chipley man was killed after being run over by his own truck and trailer shortly after 1 p.m. Friday in Jackson County.
According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man had been traveling northbound on a dirt road known as Pittman Hill Road before going through the intersection with McCormick Road.
It appears that the driver then attempted to place his 2005 Ford F250, which was pulling a trailer, in park and cut the ignition off.
A witness reported that after the man stopped, he jumped out of the driver’s seat and leaned down to grasp his knees with both hands as if experiencing a medical emergency. The report stated that it appeared the truck was not completely in park. The rear portion of the truck and the trailer ran over the driver as he stood outside.
FHP indicated that the investigation is still in the early stages. “We will continue to work this case to help the family find closure,” according to the FHP news release.
FHP was assisted at the scene by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson County Fire and Rescue.
