HOSFORD – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the fatal shooting of a Hosford man who threatened Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputies at gunpoint when they responded to a call in the area of Pullam Road on Sunday afternoon.
The man was reportedly shot in the throat and died at the scene shortly before 5 p.m. A relative at the suspect’s residence was said to have experienced a medical incident sometime afterwards and was taken by Life Flight to an area hospital.
According to a news release from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, two deputies approached the armed man  as he was walking near NE Todd Pullman Road. The subject, a white male, had an active arrest warrant.
Deputies asked the man to drop his gun but instead, he raised it and pointed it at them. Deputies fired and the man was struck by gunfire. Deputies provided aid to the subject, but he died at the scene.
“As is routine, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) will investigate the shooting. Agents have responded to the scene. The name of the subject is not being released at this time pending family notification. Deputies will be placed on leave per policy,” the news release stated.
“We understand this is a traumatic event for our community, our deputies involved, and also for family members of the deceased man. We ask for patience while this shooting is investigated,” the statement concluded.
