Horace Earl Huggins
BLOUNTSTOWN, FL – Horace Earl Huggins, 88, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024. He was born in Westville on Jan. 2, 1936, to Curtis T and Ette Belle (Arrant) Huggins.
Horace spent most of his childhood in Blountstown until he joined the Army in his late teens.
In August 1956, he married an Okinawan, Yoshiko Kinjo, who he met while stationed on the island. After having their first child, Michael, in Okinawa, they moved back to the United States and raised six more children in different states as Horace was stationed at different bases across the country and the world.
They eventually settled down back in Blountstown to raise their family. After their children were grown, they spent a small stint from 1989 to 1995 in South Korea and Okinawa when Horace worked as a civil service employee in the commissary as a produce manager.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, Horace worked in different industries, but mostly worked in the grocery business. Horace loved to fish and usually had a big garden every year.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ, first joining in 1965 in Fort Pierce. Living in Blountstown, he attended the Quincy Mission where he served as Teacher, Deacon and Elder throughout his years there.
Horace was preceded in death by his wife Yoshi Kinjo Huggins; oldest son Michael Huggins, brothers James, Edgar (Bud) and W.C. Huggins and sister Vera Dudley.
He is survived by his sister Elma Mullins; sons, Curtis K. and Michelle of Altha, Horace Junior Huggins of Blountstown, Charles Nephi Huggins of Clarksville; daughters, Akiko “Coty” Stoutamire and Bill of Blue Creek, Matsu Bell Greene of Blountstown, Meiko Whitfield of Bristol, Jenny Portier of LaRochelle France; grandchildren, Sam (Dawn) Greene, Jon (Chasity) Greene, Morgan (Taylor) Huggins, Brandon (Madison) Huggins, Trenten Huggins, Rick (Terri) Stoutamire, Brandi (Chuck) McCranie, Hana (Toby) Williams, April Huggins, Stephanie (Tony) Barrington, Becky (Jeff) Balentine; a host of great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held Saturday, March 23, starting at 10 a.m. CT at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. CT with Alphonzo Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Memorial Cemetery in Blountstown.
