CALHOUN CO. – A Georgia man was taken to Calhoun Liberty Hospital this morning with minor injuries after losing control of his truck when a deer ran across the road around 8:20 a.m. today.
The 2019 Ford 150 was southbound on SR 73S, near Hwy. 73 South when the deer appeared in the road.
“The truck left the road, hit a culvert and went airborne,” according to Kinard Fire Dept. Chief Jody Daniels. The truck landed at the edge of the woods after spilling out the contents of the bed of the truck.
Initial reports indicated that the driver was trapped in the truck but volunteers with the Kinard Fire Department were able to get the man out. Daniels noted that the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
The crash left a lot of debris in the road and the vehicle sustained significant front end damage.
Later that morning, a man attempting to turn east into a driveway off SR 275 N near the Red Oak Community Church was hit when he pulled his white truck into the path of a northbound Nissan pickup around 11:20 a.m.
The pickup hit the first truck by the passenger’s side tire and flipped it over into the ditch, where it came to rest on its side. (see photo below) The driver later used a tractor to upright his truck and pull it out of the ditch. The other truck was totaled.
No serious injuries were reported. Both drivers declined to go to the hospital.
Magnolia Fire Department responded to the scene, along with FHP, Calhoun EMS and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
