BLOUNTSTOWN, FL—The Muscogee (Creek) Nation delegation is joining Calhoun County officials Wednesday in unveiling a new historical marker in recognition of Apalachicola Tribal Town Mekko John Blount. This unveiling marks a significant milestone in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s cultural heritage and legacy in Florida.
This marker will serve a testament to the resilience of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, forcefully removed from Florida on the Trail of Tears from present-day Blountstown. The Muscogee (Creek) Nation honors the sacred, historical significance of these lands in Florida and remembers the Mvskoke who lived and died for the perseverance of future Muscogee people.
The dedication of this historical marker and flag raising ceremony will signify the unwavering commitment of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation to preserve and commemorate its rich heritage, paying homage to those who came before and paving the way for generations to come.
