Dental Clinic hosts
tour for FSU
medical students
BRISTOL, FL – The all-new state of the art Bristol Dental Clinic hosted the incoming 2024 class of FSU’s Medical Students on Friday, May 31. For the past decade, students have come to Bristol to learn first-hand about rural health care. Previously, they toured Bristol Dental Clinic’s office on Pea Ridge Road. This tour was at the new dental office, located on 10686 NW Main Street, which is set to open on Monday, June 3.
The tour included mini-lectures and demonstrations about how modern rural dentistry interconnects with the modern practice of medicine. A presentation on oral cancer was one of the areas covered. There were also demonstrations of the new state-of-the-art digital scanning impression techniques and equipment as well as digital x-rays. Digital x-rays have greatly enhanced diagnostic abilities and also facilitate referral to specialty services.
The new facility is served with a high-speed fiber-optic internet connection, and offers a free guest Wi-Fi connection for patients and guests.
Dr. Laban Bontrager and Dr. Monica Bontrager participated in a panel presentation during a luncheon for the medical students at the Veterans Memorial Center in Bristol.
The FSU College of Medicine emphasizes the practice of health care in rural areas that have traditionally been underserved. With new and modern facilities, that shortage of care is being met. Calhoun Liberty Hospital is also building a new and modern hospital located in Blountstown. Dr. Bontrager also is a long-term member of the board of directors of the Calhoun Liberty Hospital. He and the entire board and staff of the hospital are excited about the improvements in health care that will be available to our communities. The new hospital will be operated in conjunction with Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
These new facilities and health care partnerships will greatly enhance the delivery of modern health care to this area. “These improvements make our great way of rural life even better,” said Dr. Bontrager. “We love our way of life, our communities and the people of our communities. We look forward to continuing to offer only the best of health care to the people here as well as the surrounding areas.”
