BRISTOL, FLÂ – A 78-year-old man driving through Liberty County early this morning was critically injured when he ran off the road and struck a utility pole at SR 20 and SR 12 in front of the Dollar General.
Traveling with him was his 85-year-old wife, who sustained minor injuries.
According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the couple’s 2015 Infinity SUV was traveling in the inside lane of SR 20 at 1:45 a.m. when it crossed the center line and went off the road, colliding with a utility pole and mailbox.
The driver was transported to Calhoun Liberty Hospital. His condition at this time is unknown. It is suspected that he may have suffered a medical issue that resulted in the early morning crash. His wife was also taken to the hospital to be examined for her injuries.
There was a brief power interruption around 5:30 a.m. when utility workers replaced the damaged pole.
The couple, who are from Jacksonville, had been on their way to Biloxi, MS.

Bristol man suffers
serious injuries in
SR 65 crash Dec. 10
GADSDEN  COUNTY, FL – A 74-year-old Bristol man was seriously injured when he lost control of his truck while traveling north on  SR 65,  about a half mile north of Lowrey Industrial Road around 1:10 p.m. on Dec. 10.
The driver left the road after failing to negotiate a left curve.  His 2001 Ford Ranger went off to the right, then returned  to the road and started to rotate before overturning several times.  The truck came to a stop on the west shoulder, upright and facing east.  The driver was trapped in the damage truck.
A Bristol man driving by stopped to assist the injured man while waiting for help to arrive. Â He said the driver was “coherent but dazed” and had some bad cuts and bruises. Â Â He also helped with extracting the man by assisting rescue workers who had to pry back the door frame to make room to get the Jaws of Life in place to pull back the door that had trapped the driver inside.
The injured man was Life Flighted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later reported to be in stable condition.
The roadway was closed for about an hour during the crash investigation.
