Youngster is first local
child to complete the
1000 Books challenge
BLOUNTSTOWN, FL – Brently Spiva, along with his parents Caitlyn and Keaton Spiva of Altha, were recognized at a recent Calhoun County Commissioners meeting for being Calhoun County’s first child to complete the 1000 Books before Kindergarten Challenge.
The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge is an early literacy initiative to encourage parents to read 1000 books to their child before they enter Kindergarten. It promotes reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers to encourage parent and child bonding through reading. The goal is to provide a simple, innovative yet fun approach to establishing strong early literacy skills while helping young children gain the confidence to become strong readers.
Calhoun County Public Library provides the web-based/App reading challenge software, Beanstack, to all Calhoun County parents with their library card.
To sign up go to the Beanstack website: cclibrary.beanstack.org or follow the link through the library website: ccpl-fl.net
