LCHS grad is Head Coach for

Chipola’s Lady Indians

Kelly Brookins named

S. Atlantic District B

Coach of the Year

MARIANNA, FL – Coach Kelly Brookins has been honored as the South Atlantic District B Coach of the Year, a testament to her outstanding leadership of the Chipola College Lady Indians softball team. This recognition highlights her significant contributions to the program and her dedication to excellence in collegiate athletics .

Brookins, a 2004 graduate of Liberty County High School, began her collegiate playing career at Chipola College, where she earned Second Team All-Conference honors. She continued her education and athletic career at Nova Southeastern University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Sports and Recreation Management in 2008. Returning to Chipola in 2011, she served as an assistant coach for a decade, during which the Lady Indians secured two NJCAA National Championships (2015 and 2019) and two runner-up finishes (2016 and 2018) .

In July 2021, Brookins was appointed head coach of the Lady Indians. Under her leadership, the team has achieved an impressive overall record of 94–60 over three seasons, reflecting her commitment to maintaining the program’s winning tradition.

This Coach of the Year award not only celebrates Brookins’ coaching achievements but also underscores her role in fostering a culture of success and resilience within the Chipola College softball program.

Fourteen Chipola Fine Arts

are students named to the

FCSAA All Academic Team

MARIANNA, FL -Fourteen Chipola College Fine and Performing Arts students were named to the 2024-2025 Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) All-Academic Teams.

Three students were named to the FCSAA All-Academic Theatre Team:

•Jaden McGhee (Blountstown)

•Charlize Reyes (Alford)

•Alexis Skipper (Youngstown)

Eleven students were named to the FCSAA All-Academic Music Team:

•Allie Anderson (Bonifay)

•Emma Barker (Marianna)

•Gavin Nehemiah Braddy (Bonifay)

•Kamille Cooper (Marianna)

•Summer Day (Bristol)

•Caleb Detweiler (Blountstown)

•Katelyn Jones (Bonifay)

•Trevor Shelton (Bascom)

•Emily Speers (Alford)

• Trinity White (Marianna)

•Baylee Yoder (Altha).

In order to qualify for the All-Academic Team a student must meet three criteria. The student must meet the requirements for participation and be an active participant in the music or theatre program.  The student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 or higher for the current academic year and must have taken a minimum of eighteen (18) semester hours during the current academic year.

“These students have shown that they can excel academically in addition to their rigorous performance schedule.  These students have performed in the Chipola Show Choir, College Chorus, President’s Ensemble, Rock and Jazz Band, and Chipola Theatre productions. Congratulations to these talented and dedicated students”, stated Director of Fine and Performing Arts Evelyn Ward.
