BRISTOL, FL – A 23-year-old  Bristol man waiting for traffic to resume during a road construction stop at SR 20 and Dempsey Barron Road was seriously injured when his vehicle was hit head-on by a box truck, which then knocked him off the road and rolled on top of his 2022 Ford Mustang.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol,  the box truck driver was traveling east on SR 20 when came up too quickly behind a line of stopped vehicles around 5:20 p.m. Thursday.

The FHP report said the truck driver hit his brakes too late to stop, began sliding on the wet road and went into the oncoming lane before hitting the Mustang head-on.

The impact sent both vehicles north from their initial impact.  The box truck overturned and came to final rest on top of the Mustang.

Emergency responders, with the assistance of Mallory Towing,  lifted the box truck off the smaller car.  The injured driver, whose legs were trapped,  was then removed from the wreckage.

The 29-year-old truck driver and his passenger, 25, both of Tallahassee, were unharmed.

The crash caused the road to be closed for an hour and a half as rescue workers treated the injured driver while FHP conducted the crash investigation.
