STORIES OF

DOWNTOWN BLOUNTSTOWN

The Commerce Building

Over the next few weeks and months, the community organization  Saving Downtown Blountstown wants to collect and  share stories of the businesses and offices that occupied space in what is now known as The Commerce Building.  Since the renovation of the building has begun, citizens have shared memories of what “used to be.”

Here are a few of the businesses that we know were located in this building.

•Durham’s Grocery Store
•Suwanee Store (Womble’s)
•Hall’s Barber Shop
Dr. Ed Atkins dental office
•Inez Bailey General Store
•Clara Jones Art Studio
•I. Shapiro Department Store
•John D. Trammell, Attorney at Law
•Calhoun County School Board Offices
•Calhoun County Public Assistance Offices
•True Value Hardware Store

If you have photographs, newspaper articles, or stories to share, please contact Chris Atkins at chrisatkins6578@gmail.com or Sharon Leonard-McCrone at sleonardmccrone@gmail.com.   Saving Downtown Blountstown hopes to have an area in the building where photographs and memorabilia can be displayed.
