and thrown 15 feet

BRISTOL, FL – A 22-year-old man walking along CR 12 was seriously injured when a vehicle traveling near Schmarje Lane struck him early Thursday evening in Bristol.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that a 39-year-old Bristol woman was southbound in a 2016 Nissan Rogue around 7 p.m. on Feb. 12 when she entered a slight left curve in the road before crossing the right edge line, where she struck the pedestrian, who was walking approximately 13 inches from the road.

The impact threw the man approximately 15 feet west of the road.

The driver is disputing the trooper’s report and maintains that the pedestrian was standing on the white line at the edge of the road at the time of impact.

After the crash, the driver continued on for about 20 feet, crossed both lanes of  CR 12 and stopped on the east side, facing south.  She was not hurt.

The injured man, who is a Bristol resident,  was taken by ambulance to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital by Calhoun County EMS.  Though serious, his injuries were not life-threatening, according to FHP.

FHP was assisted at the scene by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Liberty County Fire Department and Calhoun County EMS.
