Evacuation orders issued

as fire spreads throught

Mossy Pond Community

MOSSY  POND COMMUNITY, FL – Fire departments from across Calhoun County continue to battle today’s wildfire with support from the Florida Forest Service, and surrounding county fire resources, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Dept.

EVACUATION: As of 7:30 p.m. CT on March 21, evacuation orders have been issued for residences north of Baker Road between Wonderin Road and and Isoletta Lane, north to Valencia Road and County Road 274. Residence south of County Road 274 between Valencia Road and NW Lake McKenzie Road are also directed to evacuate.

SHELTER: The Mossy Pond Community Center/Library has been opened as a place of shelter for those who have evacuated. Additionally, Red Cross resources will be available to support evacuees if needed.

SUMMARY: As of this update, over 300 acres has been burned in this fire, with structures damaged. No injuries have been reported associated with this incident. Continue to monitor here for updates.

PER GULF COAST ELECTRIC CO-OP: Due to a forest fire, it is necessary to temporarily disconnect power to Valencia, 274, Porter Grade and McKenzie in the Altha area (March 21 at 8:30 p.m.).  As soon as the forestry department allows, power will be restored.
