BRISTOL, FL – A threatening call came into Liberty County High School earlier this afternoon, forcing school officials to put the site on lockdown, according to Liberty County School Superintendent Kyle Peddie. Students were cleared from the building and busses were sent out to make their afternoon drop offs.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s office is on site and FDLE is working on tracing the call, according to Liberty County Sheriff Dusty Arnold.
“After 1:50 p.m., the school got a call from what was described to us as a male with a middle eastern accent that said he was on campus with a gun and bombs and within five minutes he was going to start shooting up the school and setting off bombs,” according to the sheriff.
“Deputies rushed in and started clearing the school inch by inch,” he said.
“As of right now, everything is safe. The entire school has been searched. We are going back with the bomb dogs and the gun dogs and everything else. We’re doing a secondary search just to make sure,” he said.
Arnold said they are following “normal protocol” for such incidents, which includes restricting movement and keeping SROs on site at all three schools.
“Everyone is safe; everything is fine here,” he said, and added that they would search the remaining two schools as well to ensure there is no danger.
“We got FDLE running lead on the phone call and hopefully we’ll have some more information,” he said.
The sheriff, whose son is a student at LCHS, stressed, “I want you to know that the teachers and the staff at LCHS took very good care of your kids during this scary event.”
He assured parents, “Everybody’s fine and everybody’s safe,” before adding, “We’re going to put somebody’s tail in jail!”
