Teens escape with minor injuries after hitting utility pole

CALHOUN COUNTY – A 16-year-old boy and his 14-year-old passenger escaped with minor injuries after driving a 2008 Honda Accord into a utility pole early Friday morning, accord to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The pair – both of Blountstown –Â were traveling north on SR 73 and approaching Newsome Road around 12:30 a.m. when the driver attempted to turn left onto Newsome Road and lost control of the car.
The vehicle ran off the road and hit a utility pole before coming to rest on the north shoulder of Newsome Road.
The driver had reportedly taken the vehicle without permission from a family member. He was cited for careless driving and issued a notice to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid driver’s license. Â
He was released into the custody of an uncle at the scene.Â
