CHIPLEY, FL – Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in the Big Bend area as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.

Franklin County:

  • U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Franklin Street to Carrabelle River Bridge – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Monday, June 22 through Friday, June 26, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for construction activities.

Gulf County:

  • State Road (S.R.) 71 Concrete Rehabilitation Project – Reid Avenue will be closed at S.R. 71 beginning Monday, June 22. Drivers will detour via Williams Avenue, Fourth Street and Monument Avenue. Access to businesses on Reid Avenue will be maintained at all times during the closure, which is expected to remain in place through late June. Drivers are reminded that S.R. 71 between Williams Avenue and Monument Avenue has been reduced to two lanes, one in each direction. All traffic is currently shifted to the northbound side of the roadway while crews reconstruct the southbound lanes.

Leon County:

  • Interstate 10 (I-10) Resurfacing from west of Olson Road to east of U.S. 90 (Mahan Drive) – Motorists may encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Sunday, June 21 through Thursday, June 25 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for construction activities.
  • S. 90 (Tennessee Street) Resurfacing from S.R. 61 (Monroe Street) to S.R. 265 – Motorists may encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Sunday, June 21 through Thursday, June 25 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for construction activities.
  • R. 263 (Capital Circle) Resurfacing from south of U.S. 90 (Tennessee Street) to north of I-10 – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Sunday, June 21 through Friday, June 26, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for construction activities.
  • R. 366 (Pensacola Street) Resurfacing from the Railroad Overpass to Stadium Drive – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Sunday, June 21 through Friday, June 26, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for construction activities.
  • S. 319 (Crawfordville Road) from South of S.R. 61 to Arden Road – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Sunday, June 21 through Thursday, June 25, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for construction activities. 
  • S.R. 363 (Woodville Highway) Traffic Signal Operation at County Road 2192 (Natural Bridge Road) – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Monday, June 22 through Friday, June 26, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for construction activities.

—————-CENTRAL PANHANDLE —————-

Bay County:

  • DuPont Bridge Replacement Project – Drivers will encounter periodic east and westbound inside (left) lane closures from Oak Shore Drive to Bonita Bay Drive Sunday, June 21 through Thursday, June 25 from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. for widening and drainage work.
  • U.S. 231 Intersection Improvement at Star Avenue/Titus Road – Titus Road is temporarily closed at the U.S. 231 intersection. The closure is required for the reconstruction and realignment of Titus Road and to construct a new bridge. Drivers should detour via U.S. 231, State Road (S.R.) 390 and Titus Road. Detour signs are in place to safely direct drivers through the work zone. The temporary closure of Titus Road at U.S. 231 is expected to be in place through late 2026.
  • U.S. 98 Widening Project– Drivers will encounter the following construction-related traffic disruptions:
    • U.S. 98 drivers will encounter intermittent and alternating lane closures from Mandy Lane to Nautilus Street Sunday, June 21 through Friday, June 26 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving operations.
    • U.S. 98 drivers will encounter intermittent and alternating lane closures between Nautilus Street and Richard Jackson Boulevard Sunday, June 21 through Thursday, June 25 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be paving the roadway.
  • S.R. 390 Bridge Rehabilitation over Mill Bayou – S.R. 390 drivers may experience brief travel delays near the Mill Bayou Bridge Sunday, June 21 through Saturday, June 27. Crews will be mobilizing equipment and materials to the project site to continue construction activities.

Washington County:

  • S.R. 77 Roulhac School Reunion Parade – Drivers will encounter a road closure at Church Avenue Saturday, June 20 from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the Roulhac School Reunion Parade to cross over S.R. 77.
  • S.R. 77 Widening from Rogers Road to Cane Mill Road – Beginning Wednesday, June 24, S.R. 77 drivers will be shifted east to the new travel lanes between Rogers Road and Memorial Drive and Hagan Road. This shift will allow crews to reconstruct the existing travel lanes along this section of the roadway. Signage will be in place to safely direct drivers through the work zone. In addition, S.R. 77 drivers will encounter periodic daytime lane closures from Rogers Road to Cane Mill Road Monday, June 22 through Friday, June 26 for construction activities.
  • S.R. 79 Roadway Reconstruction from south of Millers Ferry Road to Mallory Road – Drivers will encounter periodic lane closures and traffic stoppages Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as crews perform construction activities. Signage and traffic flaggers will be in place to safely direct drivers through the work zone.
  • S.R. 277 (Vernon Highway) Resurfacing from S.R. 79 to U.S. 90 – Drivers may encounter periodic intermittent lane closures Monday, June 22 through Friday, June 26 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for paving activities.

Reid Avenue closure at

State Rd. 71 in Gulf County

training in July 13 thru Sept. 18

FDOT has developed and launched a paid, six-week mobile Construction Training Program designed to expand the pool of skilled laborers to help deliver transformational infrastructure projects across Florida.

This Program reflects FDOT’s strong commitment to building a sustainable pipeline of trained, job-ready workers who can enter the workforce quickly and make an immediate impact.

Whether participants are new to construction or exploring a career change, the program provides the tools and training needed to launch a career while supporting the critical transportation infrastructure that drives Florida’s economy and enhances quality of life.

CURRENT PROJECTS

U.S. 231 & 23rd St. resurfacing

project to begin in Bay County

CHIPLEY, FL –The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin an $11.4 million project to resurface and improve two roadway segments in Bay County, including U.S. 231 (State Road (S.R.) 75) from U.S. 98 (15th Street) to Baldwin Road (C.R. 231) and 23rd Street (S.R. 368) from S.R. 390 to U.S. 231.

Planned project work includes:

  • Signalization upgrades.
  • Sidewalk improvements.
  • Curb and gutter and drainage enhancements.
  • Signing and pavement marking.

Additional improvements are also planned along S.R. 390 (Beck Avenue) from U.S. 98 to 23rd Street and on S.R. 327 (Lisenby Avenue) from 23rd Street to S.R. 390.

During construction, lane closures may occur nightly between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. For the U.S. 231 segment between U.S. 98 and Baldwin Road, lane closures from Memorial Day through Labor Day will be limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This project is scheduled for completion in mid-2028.

Ecofina Creek Bridge in

Bay County being replaced

CHIPLEY, FL – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a $14.8 million project to replace the existing Econfina Creek Bridge on State Road 20 in Bay County.  Additional improvements for this project include:

  • Roadway approach reconstruction.
  • New guardrail.
  • Drainage improvements.
  • Signing and pavement markings.

During construction, a temporary roadway and bridge will be constructed, just north of the existing structure to allow crews to demolish and reconstruct the bridge in the existing location. Two travel lanes, one in each direction, will remain open. Additionally, access to the Pitt and Sylvan recreation area and the Econfina Public Canoe Launch will remain open throughout construction.

Drivers may encounter periodic lane closures and minimal traffic disruptions. Noise and vibration will occur during pile‑driving operations. The speed limit will remain at 45 mph.

This project is scheduled for completion in late 2029.

Temporary intersection closure

planned for State Road (S.R.) 71

& Woodward Avenue in Gulf Co.

GULF CO., FL  – Beginning Wednesday, June 3 the S.R. 71 intersection at Woodward Avenue will be temporarily closed for valve removal and concrete slab replacement. The closure is expected to be extended through Monday, June 15. Drivers should follow detour signage through the work zone.

This work is part of a $2 million pavement rehabilitation project on S.R. 71, from U.S. 98 to Garrison Avenue, in Gulf County. Additional project work includes sidewalk and crosswalk improvements, signalization upgrades, stormwater management enhancements and new signing and pavement markings. The work is scheduled for completion later this year.

Intersection closure 

for Tennessee Street

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began a $7.5 million resurfacing and improvement project on State Road (S.R.) 10 (U.S. 90/Tennessee Street) from S.R. 61 (U.S. 27/Monroe Street) to S.R. 265 (Magnolia Drive) in Leon County on May 31, 2026.

Project improvements include:

  • Milling and resurfacing.
  • Retaining wall replacement.
  • Curb ramps and ADA improvements.
  • Signing and pavement markings.
  • Landscaping and aesthetic enhancements.

Drivers may experience intermittent nighttime lane closures and restrictions, as well as select intersection detours between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

All planned construction activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway. Speeding fines are doubled when workers are present.

This project is scheduled for completion Mid 2027.

TALLAHASSEE, FL The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has updated information concerning the resurfacing and improvement project on State Road (S.R.) 61 (South Monroe Street) from Perkins Street to north of Jefferson Street in Leon County. This Virtual Project Update provides interested persons with an opportunity to review information about the project. The project information can be accessed anytime, anywhere, beginning at 12 p.m. (EDT) 12 p.m. (EDT) Friday, May 15, 2026, at https://nwflroads.com/projects/421635-4.

This project will resurface and improve 1.2 miles of S.R. 61 (South Monroe Street) from Perkins Street to north of Jefferson Street in Leon County in front of the state’s Capitol building. Project improvements include milling and resurfacing the roadway, improvements to curb ramps and Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility, signalization upgrades, updating signage and pavement markings, and manhole, valve, and meter box utility adjustments.
