Opportunity Florida applauds Gov.
for rural infrastructure investments
TALLAHASSEE, FL – Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Dec. 15 that more than $24 million in rural infrastructure dollars has been awarded to 16 counties, with more than $7.5 million of those funds coming to counties in Opportunity Florida’s economic development region in Northwest Florida.
“Governor DeSantis has once again provided crucial support to our rural communities in a way that is targeted toward helping our communities grow and prosper in the future,” said Opportunity Florida Executive Director Richard Williams. “The Governor’s office and Florida Commerce continue to be responsive to the needs of rural communities and show they value rural Florida.”
Northwest Florida counties awarded funding are:
• Holmes County Board of County Commissioners ($4,633,000) – for water and roadway infrastructure improvements.
• City of Bonifay ($1,469,500) – to upgrade the city’s wastewater treatment plant and potable water supply, creating 120 new jobs and providing more than $20 million in capital investments.
• City of Quincy ($909,810) – to extend S. Springs Road, including water, sewer, and existing utilities by 1,200 feet.
• City of Quincy ($278,000) – to study the current capacity of the wastewater treatment plant and to determine the needs of future planned developments.
• City of Blountstown ($217,943)– to provide improvements and expand existing waterlines to allow an increase in operational efficiency and to increase reliability in an effort to prevent significant downtime.
