Altha passenger critically

injured after falling from

side-by-side early Sunday a.m.

CALHOUN COUNTY – A 19-year-old man from Altha was taken to a Bay County hospital under a trauma alert with critical injuries after he fell out of a side-by-side shortly before 1 a.m. today, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. 

The injured passenger was riding in the back storage area of the vehicle, which did not have a seat.  The side-by-side was traveling westbound on Lake McKenzie Shores Blvd. near Mossy Pond Blvd.

The FHP report stated that the vehicle was in motion when the passenger either fell or was ejected onto a dirt road and sustained a head injury.

Both the driver, identified as a 22-year-old man from Altha, and a second passenger, a 24-year-old Grand Ridge man, were not hurt.    Both were reported to be wearing seat belts at the time.

Chipley woman killed

in ATV crash Saturday

WASHINGTON COUNTY – A Saturday evening ride on a side-by-side utility vehicle ended tragically for a 47-year-old Chipley woman who was killed when it overturned.

According to FHP, the woman was traveling northbound when she lost control of the vehicle at CR 286 and NE Bush Dawson Road at 9:22 p.m.  

The UTV operator, who was not wearing a seatbelt or helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
