TALLAHASSEE, FL- Sept. 27th, 2024: Late Thursday night, Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region, unleashing destructive winds and heavy rainfall that left thousands without power and caused extensive damage to homes. Eight of the sixteen counties served by Second Harvest of the Big Bend have been affected, leaving many residents in urgent need of assistance. Compounding the situation, these same counties have faced three hurricanes in the past year, worsening food insecurity for their residents.

As the community begins to assess the aftermath of this disaster, Second Harvest of the Big Bend is reaching out for resources to support neighbors in need. Many families are facing food and water shortages, and the need for assistance is growing by the hour.

“We are deeply concerned for those affected by Hurricane Helene,” said Monique Ellsworth, CEO of Second Harvest of the Big Bend. “During times of crisis, our community always rallies together to support one another. We encourage everyone to contribute what they can—whether through financial support or by volunteering at our distribution events—to help us provide essential supplies to those in need.”

Second Harvest of the Big Bend is mobilizing resources to distribute food and water to the hardest-hit areas. Your financial donations will directly impact our ability to provide immediate relief and long-term support to families struggling to recover from the hurricane’s devastation.
