Betty Jo Castleberry
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FL – At 89 years old, Betty Jo Castleberry Hyatt Fitzpatrick gained her angel wings and ascended to her heavenly home on Nov. 6, 2024, at seven in the morning surrounded by her family.
Born on June 10, 1935 to Thomas and Minnie Castleberry, she was raised in Altha.
She married Roy Leon Hyatt in 1952 and had 46 years of love and raising children until his death in 1998. She married Billy Floyd Fitzpatrick in 2010 and remained by his side until death in 2015.
Betty Jo attended multiple schools with degrees in library science and elementary education ultimately obtaining her PhD in education from Florida State University. She worked in the public school system for 35 years and stayed active with the retired teachers association of Escambia County for many years after her retirement. She had a strong faith and was very active in the United Methodist Church women’s group and their missions.
She loved reading, writing and working in her flower beds.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, two brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her children: RoLynn Watson(Monty), Catherine Stevens (James Cummings), Joel Hyatt, Claudia Simmons, Charlotte Peacock (Lloyd), and Robert Hackle. Grandchildren include Tasha Cason, Hannah Jo Stevens, Cassie Peacock, Beau Peacock, Kent Simmons, Neal Simmons, Amy Hackle, and Sara Lin. She also has numerous great-grandchildren. She leaves two brothers and one sister behind on Earth. She will forever be missed by our family for her love of us and compassion for all.
Visitation will be held at 1:30 to 2:30 in the afternoon on Sunday, Nov. 10 at Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown. Her graveside service will be held at New Shiloh Cemetery in Chason.
