GADSDEN COUNTY – Two men were killed when their vehicles collided head-on early Saturday morning, Nov. 9 in Gadsden County, according to a report from the Florida  Highway Patrol.

The fatalities were identified as a 37-year-old Hosford man and a Quincy man, who was 41.

The Liberty County driver was going south on SR 267 (Pat Thomas     Parkway) at 5:28 a.m. when his SUV drove into the oncoming lane and into the path of a northbound pickup truck.

After impact, the SUV came to final rest facing east, blocking SR 267. blocking the roadway.  The pickup truck also stopped in the road, facing west.

The FHP reported noted that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Two seriously hurt

in Calhoun crash

CALHOUN COUNTY, FL –  Two people were seriously injured and four others sustained minor injuries in a head-on crash Sunday morning on NW County Road 73B.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol,  a 67-year-old Altha woman was westbound at 9 a.m. when her SUV crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane, hitting an oncoming SUV carrying five people from Altha.

The head-on collision sent the first vehicle rotating before it came to a stop facing north, south of the road.

The second vehicle also spun around before coming to final rest in the middle of the road, facing south.

The first driver sustained serious injuries, as did one of the passengers in the second vehicle who was identified as a 46-year-old man.  The second driver, a 42-year-old woman, had minor injuries.  The remaining passengers – including a 15-year-old male and a female, age 12 – also sustained minor injuries, along with another passenger whose age and gender were not included in the report.

The male front right passenger was flown out by Survival Flight. The driver and other occupants were transported by ground to Bay Medical.

Monday morning

TALLAHASSEE, FL –  An out of control pickup truck struck a car in which a woman and her two teenage sons were traveling to Monday morning’s Veterans Day parade, leaving the driver and one boy dead and the other seriously injured.
According to the Tallahassee Police Department, the truck was eastbound on East Tennessee Street when the driver lost control, went over the median and hit the car traveling westbound on East Tennessee Street.
The woman driving the car was killed.  Her two sons were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, where one later died.
The driver of the pickup truck, an adult male, was treated on scene after the 8:55 a.m. crash.
This remains an open and active investigation, according to TPD, and updates will be provided when they become available.

Man charged with

DUI in SR 79 crash

PANAMA CITY, FL –  A  Panama City man, 49,  and his passenger, a 43-year-old woman also from Panama City, escaped with minor injuries after he lost control of his SUV and hit another car, leaving the second driver – a 72-year-old Panama City Beach man – seriously injured.  The driver, identified as Donald Lane Kropff,  was later charged with DUI.

A 40-year-old woman and a four-year-old girl, both of Hammersville, OH, traveling in the second vehicle sustained minor injuries.

According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, both vehicles were northbound on SR 79 at 3:40 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11.   The vehicle at fault was in the outside northbound lane while the second vehicle was in the inside lane.

The driver of the first car traveled onto the east shoulder of the road to pass another vehicle.  When he returned to the outside northbound lane, he failed to maintain control of his vehicle and collided with the right rear corner of the second car and then went off the road.  His vehicle continued on across the grass median divider, went into the southbound lanes of SR 79 and onto the west shoulder before going into the woods.

Bay County EMS, Bay County Fire Rescue and the Bay County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Man arrested for

DUI manslaughter

in fatal I-10 crash

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FL –  A Daphne, AL man has been charged with vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter following a Nov. 6 crash on I-10 in Escambia County.  The driver – identified as  Shawn Wilber –  was arrested on Nov. 10.

Wilber was behind the wheel of a Dodge Rum when he hit a Toyota SUV at 9:01 p.m. near Mile Marker 9, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

He was originally charged with and arrested for DUI – causing serious bodily injury on the night of the crash. After posting bond, Wilber was released from the Escambia County Jail.

On Nov. 9, a juvenile occupant in the Toyota was pronounced dead after sustaining injuries in the crash, which resulted in the two more serious charges.

Man dies in I-10

single car crash 

MADISON COUNTY, FL – A 65-year-old Greenville man was killed Monday, Nov. 11 after losing control of his vehicle on I-10, near the 245 Mile Marker.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver was traveling westbound on the interstate at 3:44 p.m. when he drifted into the median and collided with an embankment before coming to rest facing west in the median.

First responders arrived to find the driver deceased.

FHP was assisted at the scene by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Madison County EMS.
