Elderly driver killed after

entering oncoming lane

and hitting pickup truck 

GADSDEN COUNTY, FL – A Wednesday night crash on Flat Creek Road, one mile south of Interstate 10 in Gadsden County,  claimed the life of an 89-year-old Groverland, FL man and left a second driver in serious condition.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the elderly driver was traveling southeast on CR 270A, also known as Flat Creek Road, at 9:09 p.m. when his two-door Mazda crossed the double yellow line drove and drove into the path of a northwest bound Dodge pickup.

The left front of the car slammed into the left front of the pickup truck, which was driven by a 44-year-old  Bainbridge, GA man.  He sustained serious injuries.

The impact sent the small car rotating counterclockwise off the truck before it came to rest in the southbound lane.  The pickup was knocked backwards and came to a stop in the northwest lane.

The crash report noted that neither driver was wearing a seat belt in the March 12 crash.

FHP was assisted at the scene by the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, Gadsden County EMS, Sycamre VFD, Chattahoochee Fire Dept. and Survival Flight helicopter.
