South FL man found sleeping at Bristol boat landing

BRISTOL – A West Palm Beach man was charged with disorderly intoxication in a public place after a Liberty County deputy discovered him sleeping on the ground at the Bristol Boat Ramp on Dec. 27.

 The deputy was on patrol when drove to the landing for a security check shortly after 11 a.m. and spotted the man, who was identified as Joshua Novak, 41.

As he approached the sleeping man, the deputy saw a single can of beer left in a box that had held a 12-pack. An open container of another alcoholic drink, known as “Natty Daddy,” was next to the box.

After awakening Tucker, the deputy noted his eyes were bloodshot and he smelled strongly of alcohol.

When asked it he was all right, Tucker replied, “I’m a drunk.”  He was unable to explain to the deputy how he got to the park.

Tucker was taken to the county jail and charged.  His bail was set at $1,000 and a public defender was appointed for him.  He was ordered to abstain from alcohol and have weekly breath tests..

Two arrested on drug and paraphernalia charges

BRISTOL – A woman who was a passenger in a vehicle traveling through Liberty County is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation after a Dec. 29 traffic stop at the post office in Bristol.

Deputies pulled over a 2006 passenger car after finding that the registration had expired a few days earlier.   They spoke with the driver and the three passengers, including a woman identified as Mei Danielle Glass.

When the deputy’s drug dog did a free air sniff around the vehicle, it gave a positive alert which resulted in a search of the passengers and the contents of the car.

The arrest report noted that drug paraphernalia was found around the front passenger’s seat where Glass had been sitting.  A glass pipe with a burned crystal substance was found inside the passenger’s purse.  They recovered 2.1 grams of the substance, which field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Three baggies that held what was described as marijuana-related paraphernalia were also recovered.  

More drug paraphernalia was found in the front passenger’s side floorboard, including a tray and a can that held a smoke stem with residue and a small amount of a leafy substance.

A marijuana grinder and a tin container that held two straws with a white crystal residue were discovered in the glove box.  

Deputies located digital scales which had a crystal like residue that tested positive for methamphetamine near where another passenger, identified as Pierre Metcalf, 37, of Marianna, had been sitting.   A crushed blue pill was found wrapped in a piece of paper and prescription bottle for an antibiotic labeled as belonging to someone not in the car was also found.

Glass, who did not give an address and was listed as “homeless” on the first appearance report, was taken into custody.  Her bail was set at  $12,500.

Metcalf was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia  and unlawful possession of prescription drugs. His bail was set at $7,500.

Panama City man arrested on drug charges

after being stopped for going 79 mph

BRISTOL – A speeding ticket turned out to be the least of his worries after a Panama City man was caught traveling 79 mph through Liberty County Friday. 

Michael Tyler Bauman, 23, îs now facing charges of destroying or tampering with evidence, possession of cocaine, three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell or deliver along with a felony probation violation.

According to the arrest report from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Bauman was westbound on SR 20  when he raced past a deputy on stationary patrol.  His Volkswagen was pulled over just west of Dempsey Barron Road.

Bauman was visibly nervous when the deputy walked up to speak with him.  He was shaking, moving his hands a lot and kept reaching into his pants pocket.  The deputy noted that he could see marijuana “shake” on the center console and could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.

The driver handed over his medical marijuana card and said he had a baggie of marijuana with him. When questioned if the marijuana was in a proper container for legal sales, he replied “It’s just in a baggie in my backpack.”

Bauman was taken into custody and deputies searched his car. They found a glass jar of marijuana, a a plastic baggie of marijuana and another that held mushrooms, and a third baggie that held numerous unused baggies.  When they opened up a small magnet box, deputies found two plastic baggies and a piece of folded tin foil that concealed paper strips that tested positive for MDA.

A deputy searching between the console and the driver’s seat found a plastic baggie with a white substance that also field-tested positive for cocaine.  Inside the console, a grinder bowl was found with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine.  A bag of eight and a half Ecstasy pills were found in a baggie stashed between the passenger’s seat and console.

During a search of the driver, a deputy found a plastic baggie with more of what were identified as paper strips of LSD as well as a grinder that went with the bowl found earlier the console.

The evidence collected included 72 MDA strips, 8 1/2 Ecstasy tablets, 7.9 grams of cocaine, 7.4 grams of mushrooms and 7 grams of marijuana.

He was issued a written warning for speeding and charged with tampering with evidence, possession of MDA with intent to sell, possession of Ecstasy with intent to sell, possession of cocaine and violation of probation following his Dec. 3 arrest.

Deputies catch up with 100-mph motorcyclist

HOSFORD –  A Tallahassee man is facing charges after trying to outrun deputies after they caught him speeding through Liberty County on Dec. 27.

A deputy’s radar clocked Thomas Mayer, 33, going 82 mph as he traveled eastbound on SR 20 that evening. Mayer’s motorcycle raced past a deputy on stationary patrol just west of Dempsey Barron Road.  

Mayer noticed the patrol car and slowed down to 75 mph but when the deputy pulled out to make a traffic stop, Mayer briefly tapped the brakes and then rapidly sped up to 100 mph.  With a deputy in pursuit, Mayer raced through Hosford at 100 mph, more than twice the 45 mph speed limit.

A second deputy joined the chase and the two tried to box in the motorcycle as the driver maneuvered several times around the patrol cars. 

Mayer went around a deputy and into the path of an oncoming car, which had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. 

A deputy once again managed to get out in front of the motorcycle, with a second patrol pulling in from behind, until they finally slowed him down.  One deputy stopped, ran out and and grabbed Mayer, who was still trying to get away on his motorcycle.

Two deputies grabbed him and had to struggle before he could be handcuffed.

He was charged with fleeing or eluding at a high rate of speed, operating a motorcycle without an endorsement, resisting arrest without violence and reckless driving.

His bail was set at $12,500.
