ALTHA, FL – Benny Earl Barfield, 76, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024.
Benny Earl was a farmer, logger and dairy supervisor. He took great pride in being a cattle farmer. He loved watching, tending and naming the cows. Many days you could find Benny Earl on a tractor working in the hay field. He loved the outdoors and thrived being with family and friends. He enjoyed taking them to the woods and instilling in them the love of hog hunting and fishing on the Apalachicola River.
Benny Earl was born to Thelma and Edward Barfield on July 12, 1948. He married the love of his life, Volena Burkett Barfield, on Nov. 26, 1969. They have been married for 55 years, working together on their family farm producing crops to share with family and friends.
Benny Earl was proceeded in death by his parents;, two infant sons, Keith and Richard; and siblings Phil Barfield, Michael Barfield and Marie O’Bryan.
Benny Earl is survived by his wife, Volena Burkett Barfield; his son Jarrod Barfield and wife Cissy; granddaughters Ashlyn Martin and husband Drew, Carlee Lawrence and husband Tyler; four great-grandchildren, Raina, Cayson, Asher and Lila; close family friend Margaret Branch; sister Ann Andrews; nieces Donna Franklin and husband Wayne and Christy Lovely and husband James, along with a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Services to honor Benny’s life will be held Friday Dec. 27, 2024. A time of visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with services beginning at 12 p.m. at the Christian Home Church. Interment will follow in Sunny Hill Cemetery near Altha.
To know Benny Earl was to love him. To be loved by him was even more special. He was one of a kind and leaves behind a great legacy.
