CALHOUN COUNTY – The body of a Bristol woman was recovered from the waters of Iamonia Lake in the Hugh Creek Community late Tuesday night, according to Calhoun County Sheriff Glenn Kimbrel.

He said Perla Olvera was found inside her 2005 Ford F-150 Lariat in about 14 feet of water just off a concrete boat ramp.

Before the truck went into the water, it crashed through a locked gate leading to Cox Landing, according to the sheriff.  The damaged gate was discovered Sunday and reported to the sheriff’s office.

“We found nothing suspicious and nothing to suggest that any kind of foul play was involved,” the sheriff said.

Earlier Saturday evening, Olvera had attended a block party in Blountstown.  Later that night, a friend drove herself and Olvera in the truck to her home in the Hugh Creek Community.

The friend said she tried to get Olvera to come inside to sleep but said Olvera wanted to sleep in the truck.  The friend, who went inside to go to bed,  told an investigator that she had awaked later and recalled seeing taillights on a vehicle outside her home.  When got up, she realized Olvera and the truck were gone.

“Early in the investigation were were able to ping her cell phone and got her location in the Hugh Creek Community at 3 a.m. Sunday,” the sheriff said.

Olvera, who is the mother of two young girls, was reported missing early Monday after failing to come home and missing work.

A news release from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said that all private and public roadways in the area were searched in an effort to find the missing woman and her truck.  On Tuesday, aerial searches were conducted by Bay and Jackson County aviation units.

When the truck was discovered in the water late Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff called in the Jackson County Sheriff’s Dive Team, the FDLE Mobile Crime Unit and the Medical Examiner’s Office.   The scene was cleared around 4 a.m. Wednesday, he said.
