Pioneer  Settlement

2024 fall events set

BLOUNTSTOWN, FL  – The Panhandle Pioneer Settlement, located at 17869 NW Pioneer Settlement Road in Blountstown, has several events planned for the upcoming months.

Tuesday, Sept. 17:  The folks who give tours, run the general store, clean up and maintain the grounds as well as demonstrate nearly-forgotten skills like blacksmithing and grinding cane will come together this evening for their annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner.

Saturday, Sept. 28: Peanut Boil and old-time games for kids at the settlement, along with an old-time country fair starting at 3 p.m. which will feature a silent cake auction and old-fashioned fun for everyone.

Saturday, Oct. 19: Pioneer Day in collaboration with the Rotary Club’s Annual Goat Day at Sam Atkins Park.

Saturday, Nov. 30: Public syrup making day.

Saturday, Dec. 7: Breakfast with Santa in the morning, followed by the Annual Old-Fashioned  Christmas tour that evening

Saturday, Dec. 14: The Craft Fair and Santa Shop will give families a chance to do some last minute holiday shopping while enjoying touring settlement grounds.

Eight blacksmithing classes are scheduled for the remainder of the year, with two being held each month over the next four months.  All are on Saturdays. Those dates include Sept. 7 and 21, Oct. 5 and 19, Nov. 2 & 16 and Dec. 7 and 21.  Additional classes will be offered from January through May of 2025.

Field Trips  with groups and schools are scheduled  throughout the  year. Families and groups can arrange their own tours for a few.

The settlement is proud to announce the winners who brought their own special flavors to share during the recent Ice Cream Social.  They include First Place Winner Ellen Ethridge with her Pumpkin Spice dessert.  Second place went to Sue Price with her tasty chocolate ice cream.  There was a tie for third place between Ann Busher with her huckleberry-flavored ice cream and Pam Mellor’s peanut butter cup ice cream.
