BLOUNTSTOWN – A wreck on SR 20, just west of Charlie Wood Road, claimed the lives of two people and left three others injured Sunday afternoon.
The single vehicle crash happened at 2:59 p.m.
“We have yet to be able to identify the five occupants involved but we did have one person transported by ground to Bay Medical, one person flown to Bay Medical by AirHeart 2 and one person flown by ShandsCair to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital,” according to FHP Lt. Jason King. “An older female adult and a young male child lost their lives today,” he said.
The driver, a woman, and a male passenger both suffered critical injuries. A female passenger sustained serious injuries. Two other passengers, one male and the other female, died at the scene. Their ages and towns of residence are not yet available. No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, the FHP report noted.
According to FHP, the 2007 maroon Buick four-door was traveling east on SR 20 and approaching a slight curve to the left when the driver ran onto the shoulder. She overcorrected, sending the car back onto the road at sharp angle. The driver then overcorrected a second time, which caused the car to begin rotating clockwise. The car went into the south ditch, where it began to overturn and ejected four of the five occupants.
The car had an Ohio license plate.
“We extend a special thank you to the witnesses who sprang into action in attempts to render aid and attempt to save lives,” said King. “We also thank off-duty Blountstown Police Chief Mark Mallory, who witnessed and assisted at the scene until other first responders could arrive.”
Those responding to the scene included the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County EMS, Blountstown Fire Dept., ShandsCair medical helicopter and Air Heart 2 medical helicopter.

We were witnesses to the crash and first on scene. I want the family to know I stayed with the child and rubbed his legs and kept talking to him telling him help was on the way. I was with him when he passed peacefully. This is so heartbreaking and will be with me forever. Prayers to the family.
Would you please give me a call at (850) 570-0236 as soon as you’re available today. I would like to talk to you and perhaps add your comment to the story. I know it will be of great comfort to the family. Thank you. – Teresa Eubanks
