CALHOUN COUNTY – A 45-year-old Panama City man traveling in the wrong lane was killed early this morning when he drove head-on into a vehicle on SR 20 near Reeder Road in Calhoun County.Â
The westbound driver was traveling in the eastbound lane when his 2017 Nissan Versa slammed into a 2023 Nissan Rogue shortly before 1 a.m., according to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway.
The first driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was transported to Bay Medical with serious injuries. He was identified as a 51-year-old man from Quincy.
The man in the second vehicle was wearing his seat belt. The first driver was not.
Due to the early morning fog and roadway obstruction, SR 20 was closed to allow emergency workers to do their jobs safely.
FHP was assisted at the scene by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County Emergency Medical Services and volunteers from the Westside and Clarksville Fire Departments.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
