JACKSON COUNTY – A Wednesday morning accident on SR 273 left one woman dead, a second driver with serious injuries and a third driver and her six-year-old passenger both in critical condition, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash report noted that the second driver was the only one wearing a seatbelt.
The vehicles were traveling on SR 273 in Jackson County around 6:20 a.m. on Aug. 9 when the first vehicle – a southbound pickup truck driven by a 59-year-old Ashford, AL woman – crossed into the northbound lane and into the path of an oncoming car and another pickup truck.
When the pickup entered the northbound lane, it sideswiped a car driven by a 57-year-old woman from Chipley. The impact sent the car rotating counter-clockwise before coming to a stop in the southbound lane, facing south. The truck continued southbound in the northbound lane before slamming into the front of a pickup traveling behind the second vehicle.
After impact, the first pickup began rotating counterclockwise before coming to a stop facing northeast.
The impact redirected the third vehicle to the right before it came to a stop on the east shoulder of the road. The driver, identified as a 49-year-old Chipley woman traveling with a six-year-old girl also from Chipley, were critically injured.
