Firefighters are working to stop the spread of a 75-acre wildfire that is still burning at this time, forcing the closure of SR 20 from Hwy. 231 to Clarksville, according to Calhoun County Sheriff Glenn Kimbrel.

“There are five tractors on the ground and multiple volunteers at the scene about two miles east of the Bay County line on the south side of the road,” the sheriff said.

He said the blaze was fed by embers from a controlled burn started by a man clearing property to build a home.  The sheriff noted that the man did have a burn permit.

The Carr-Clarksville Fire Dept. is busy chasing down hot spots, he said, and added that many other area volunteer fire departments have responded to the wildfire.
