Three seriously injured in

I-10 collision with tractor-

trailer Saturday morning

LEON COUNTY, FL – The driver of a pickup truck and his two passengers were seriously injured after running into the back of  a tractor-trailer carrying 30,000 pounds of food Saturday morning near Mile Marker 200 on I-10.

The pickup  – which was pulling a fifth wheel utility trailer – began experiencing  mechanical difficulties which kept the vehicle from going more than 20 mph in an area where the posted speed limit was 70 mph.

The driver told the Florida Highway Patrol investigator that he was traveling in the middle lane, with heavy traffic in both outside lanes with no room to move when he ran into the back of the tractor-trailer.

The collision sent both eastbound vehicles into a southeasterly direction, crossing the third eastbound lane and going onto the south paved emergency shoulder where the pickup collided with the guardrail.

The tractor-trailer was redirected in a northeasterly direction before coming to final rest across eastbound lanes #1 and #2 and the north paved emergency shoulder.

The driver of the tractor-trailer escaped injury.  He was identified as a 39-year-old Jenks City, OK resident.  The occupants of the pickup truck weren’t so lucky.  The driver, a 65-year-old man from Quincy, as well as his two passengers – one, a Midway resident, 64; and the other a 65-year-old Quincy man, sustained serious injuries in the 11:10 a.m. accident.
