CALHOUN COUNTY – A routine traffic stop by Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Investigator Scotty Norris on Dec. 4 resulted in some steep charges for a Blountstown man and a woman from Jackson County after 76.2 grams of methamphetamine was found in the vehicle.
Norris pulled the vehicle over near the Calhoun-Jackson County line after he noticed that the car’s windshield was cracked and that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. When he found that Freddie Maxwell Jones Jr., 35, had a suspended license, Jones was arrested and taken into custody.
After talking with the passenger, identified as Shon Marie Massey, 49, probable cause was established for a search. When the investigator looked inside a black sock found during the search, he discovered three packages of a substance that field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.
Both Jones and Massey were charged with trafficking in 28 grams or more of methamphetamine. He was also charged with driving while license suspended or revoked. She was also charged with a probation violation for a previous drug case.
Bond was set at $50,000 for both on the drug charge. Jones also had a $2,500 bond for driving with a suspended license. Massey is being held without bond on the probation violation.
