Motorcyclist critically injured after running
into car turning left
BLOUNTSTOWN – A 25-year-old Merritt Island man was critically injured when he rode his motorcycle into car that was making a left turn just after noon Tuesday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, the motorcyclist was being pursued by an unmarked Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle, with both heading southbound on SR 71 as they came into Blountstown.
A vehicle driven by a Blountstown man, 71, had stopped in the southbound lane of SR 71 and was waiting to pull into the driveway at 17531 Main Street when the motorcyclist moved into the northbound lane and struck the left side of the car as it turned left.
The motorcycle went onto the east shoulder of SR 71 before coming to rest on its left in the front yard of a residence, facing northwest.
The rider sustained a deep wound to his thigh after losing control of the motorcycle. He was taken by Life Flight to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun Fire Rescue/EMS and the Blountstown Police department assisted at the scene.
