CHATTAHOOCHEE, FL – Betty Jean Branton Barfield, age 87,  of Chattahoochee, passed away at home on Dec. 26, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Betty was born to Henry Kelly and Leona Branton on Nov. 24, 1936 in Altha. She attended Altha Public School until the love of her life asked her to marry him. She married Charles Ernest Barfield on May 1st, 1953.

She retired from Florida State Hospital as a UTRS after more than 30 years of dedicated service. Upon retirement, Betty and Ernest spent many years of enjoyment together gardening at their farm in Altha. “Grandmother”, as she was so affectionately known, was just that to all that knew and loved her. Her love of cooking, quilting, and crocheting was shared with so many as well. 

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Ernest” Barfield, her parents, and her siblings, Tobe Branton, Pete Branton, and Maxine Robbirds.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Barfield Blount and her husband Andy; grandson, Joshua Blount and his wife Courtney; granddaughter, Miranda “Lulu” Rogers; great-grandchildren, Charlie Emerson and Madilynn Jane Blount. Also, an extended set of great-grandchildren, Gunnar and Georgia Adams, Gunnar “Taterbug” Scott, Madison “Maddie Mae”, Beckett, and Mason “Grady Judd” Smith, Stella Shiver, Fisher Brown, and Kaydence “Sissy Pot” Yawn. Special nephews, Andy “Peewee” Neel, Earl Bragg, and Johnny Branton (Cindy); several other nieces and nephews, as well as a dear friend, Dorothy “Dot Dot” Vickery. 

Visitation will be at McAlpin Funeral Home Thursday, Dec. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. EST.  Services will be held at Chattahoochee First Baptist Church on Friday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. EST.

Flowers are welcomed and appreciated by Betty’s family or, in lieu of flowers, you may send a contribution in her memory to the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Association.
