Obituary – Dewell P. Norris
Dewell P. Norris, 97
MONTICELLO, FL – Dewell P. Norris, 97, passed away on Nov. 26, 2024 at her home in Monticello. Â She was born Jan. 20, 1927 in Blountstown to Walter Daniel Powell and Bessie Audrey Powell.
After graduation, she worked at the Calhoun County Courthouse for several years, until she met and married Frank Norris and moved to Monticello, celebrating 58 years of marriage until Frank’s death in 2014.
Dewell and Frank were members of the First Baptist Church of Monticello, and both taught Sunday School for many years – Frank taught an adult men’s class, and Dewell, taught the five-year-old children’s class. Dewell enjoyed traveling with the church youth group as a chaperone, as well as going on trips with the Triple L Club, all while working occasionally as a substitute teacher for the Jefferson County School System. In her later years, she was an avid reader, frequently visiting the public library and often swapping bags full of books with friends and neighbors.
Dewell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, LaVernon Powell (Juanita, also deceased). She is survived by her daughters: Lynette Veit (Gary) of Minnesota City, Minnesota, and Peggy Dosey (David) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; sisters: Miriam Campbell (Bobby), and Sharon Gray (Neal), both of  Tallahassee; nephews: Rodney Campbell (Joline) of Marana, Arizona, Mike Powell of Tallahassee,  Jeff Powell (Tracy) of Port St. Joe and Mark Powell (Cindy), of Tallahassee;  nieces: Melita Brantley (Garrett), Meg Gray, and Sheila Perkins (Stephen), all of Santa Rosa Beach.
