APALACHICOLA, FL  – Dora Dykes Coulter,  lifelong resident of Apalachicola,  went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023 at the age of 74.

She was born on May 17, 1949 to the late George Willie Dykes and Johnny M. Langley. Dora married the love of her life Arthur Coulter at 16, a union that would last for 58 years. Side by side, they served the Lord in ministry for many years and had been attending Telogia Assembly of God.

She was a school bus driver for Franklin County for 17 years and a true Apalachicola seafood worker, shucking oysters for 20-plus years. Dora was an amazing cook, caretaker and loved her family fiercely.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, G.W. Dykes, Marvin Dykes, and Glenn Dykes and one sister, Jeanine Peterson.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Rev. Arthur Coulter of Apalachicola; three children, Anthony Coulter of Apalachicola, Dwayne Coulter and wife Kaley of Eastpoint,  and Stephanie Nash and husband Brian of Blountstown; one sister, Lee Collie of Bethlehem, GA; four grandchildren, Samantha Johnson (Jonathan), Allie Coulter, Madison Coulter, Julie Coulter and one on the way, little Seth Coulter. She is also survived by one great grandchild, Payton Johnson and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Apalachicola with Sister Susan Roach and Brother Jerry Adcock officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. A time of visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe.
