DORIS BAILEY BARRETT

ALTHA – Doris Bailey Barrett, 90, became dementia free and eternally healed in the fullness of her heavenly father’s love on March 20, 2023. Born on Nov. 29, 1932 to the late William G. and Edna Parrish Bailey of Altha, she was the last survivor of all her siblings. She was a military wife and homemaker for over 25 years before becoming a business owner of local Blountstown businesses ‘the Teen Scene’ and ‘the Bargain Corner’.

She resided in Tallahassee and attended Woodrun Baptist Church. She was a woman of faith who whole heartedly loved her Lord and Savior, family and friends. She lived a life of love and service. She enjoyed antiquing, cooking (lemon pound cake was her ultimate comfort food), caregiving, shopping, singing, square dancing and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna Bailey; siblings, Birdell Biley, Ray Bailey, Snookie Bailey, Lois Powell and Teresa Coulliette.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Max Barrett; their daughter, Wanda Barrett Yelvington (Mike); granddaughters, Sarah Yelvington, Adeshina (Will) and Heather Yelvington; one great-granddaughter, Caro Jessamine Adeshina, and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services to celebrate and honor Doris’ life were held Friday March 24 at Woodrun Baptist Church in Tallahassee, officiated by Reverend Don Cable. Graveside committal followed on Saturday March 25, in Mellow Valley, AL.

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” (John 11:25)
