Obituary – Eugene “Gene” Harold Hodge, 79, Fountain

FOUNTAIN, FL – Eugene “Gene” Harold Hodge, 79,  passed away at his home on Jan. 22, 2025, with his wife and daughter by his side.

Gene was born May 26,1945 to Lloyd Eugene and Bernice Morrow Hodge in Pontiac, MI. In 1981, the family relocated to Florida, eventually settling in the Fountain area of Calhoun County. Before retiring in 2008, Gene operated a janitorial service and was a well-known auto and marine mechanic. He was also a proud brother of the Masonic Order holding his 32nd Degree in the Scottish Rite and was also a Past-Master of Red Level Lodge No. 134 in Alliance. He loved his fellow brethren as family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sons; Eugene H. Hodge Jr. and Matthew B. Hodge and one daughter; Debra Ann Mathewson.

He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Karen Blauvelt Hodge; four daughters,  Tonetta L. Rapson (Raymond) of Port Huron, MI, Andrea K. Tremper (Raymond) of Port Huron, MI, Genie Lee Hodge of Fountain, Heather M. Kozma of Fountain and one son, John C. Kozma (Melinda) of Cloudcroft, NM. Gene also loved his grandchildren,  Jade, Jenna, Nikia, Owen, Matthew, Elizabeth, Michael, Gregory, Omie, Charlie, Keesha, Richie, Johnny, Dalton and Baylen.

A memorial service and pot-luck dinner to celebrate Gene’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Altha with Pastor Forrest Parker officiating.

The family would like to thank Emerald Coast Hospice and their dearest friends for their care and support during this period.
