BRISTOL, FL – Hoyt Joiner, age 91, of Bristol passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, at his home.

Hoyt was born Oct. 27, 1931, in Dry Springs to James Joiner and Rachel (Stewart) Joiner and lived in Liberty County most of his life.

He served in the United States Air Force for four years, worked at Saint Joe Paper Mill, and was a deputy for Liberty County under Sheriff Cloyce Rankin.  He also was the owner and operator of J & S Vault Monument company. After retirement, he went on to work at Liberty County Waste Management. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. Hoyt was a member of the Lake Mystic Baptist Church in Bristol, where he served as a deacon of the church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly (Summers) Joiner; his parents and 11 siblings.

Survivors include one son, Clifford Joiner of Bristol; one daughter, Blanche (Joiner) Traylor and husband, Jimmy of Bristol; one sister, Ola Cavens of Memphis, TN; one sister-in-law, Peggy Duggar of Bristol; grandchildren, Karrie Hosey and husband, Reggie of Orlando; Jeremiah Waller and wife, Mary of Bristol; Shawna Small and husband, Matt of Maine; Candice Dean of Woodville; great-grandchildren, Austin Waller, Caydan Waller, Garrett Lewis, Jake Traylor, Alyssa Small, Morgan McClendon, and Emma Dean; great-great-grandchildren, Haizley Jenkins and Westin Ayer.

Services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. ET from the graveside at Eureka Cemetery in the Orange Community in Liberty County with Rev. Jerry Chumley officiating. Interment will follow.

The family will accept flowers but anyone wishing to make contributions can do so to the Lake Mystic Baptist Church Building Fund or to Covenant Hospice.

All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown.
