TALLAHASSEE, FL – John Paul Young, 66, of Tallahassee, entered into Eternal Life on Aug. 31, 2024.  John was born on Jan. 22, 1958, in Monticello to Josephine Cornelia Young and James Paul Young. He was one of seven children and spent most of his early years exploring the woods with his brothers and fishing the mine holes near his childhood home in Quincy.

As a young man he had an enthusiasm for travel and adventure, often collecting rocks as souvenirs from the places he visited. It was on one of these escapades in Utah that he earned the lifelong nickname ‘Bones’ from his good friends, the Tuckers. But, it wasn’t until he returned to his hometown that he stumbled upon his greatest adventure yet: meeting the love of his life and future wife of 39 years, Mary Carol.

He loved most sports (even golf), but his favorites were football, baseball, and basketball. A lifelong devotee of Florida State, he cheered enthusiastically (and loudly) for every touchdown or home run, only missing the occasional game during the Fall when hunting season was back in session.

In addition to sports and hunting, John also enjoyed spending a quiet afternoon watching hummingbirds feed, sharing his love of poetry with his daughter, marveling at the beauty of flowers, and whiling the day away fishing and relaxing with family on the shores of St. George Island.

John was a dedicated and deeply loved husband, father, and grandfather. Affectionately known to his kids by various monikers including, but not limited to, Pa, Daddy, and Old Dude and to his grandkids as Pap Pap.

John is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary Carol Young of Tallahassee, his one son and three daughters; John Paul Young Jr. of Tallahassee, Jamie (Willie) C. Young of Quincy,  Jordan E. Young of Tallahassee and Carmen (Calvin) N. Young of Marietta, OH; four brothers and two sisters; Jimmy (Joyce) Young of Crawfordville, Fred (Cheryl) Young of Palatka,  Eddie (Debbie) Young of Jacksonville, Ben (Donna) Young of Tallahassee, Janice (Doug) Bulzer of Blountstown and JoAnn (Tom) Jacobs of Tallahassee and three grandchildren, Garrett, Haley, and Faith, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends at Adams Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10:00-11:00 am CT / 11:00 am-12:00 pm ET, followed by a service at the chapel at 11:00 am CT / 12:00 pm ET.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Florida Chapter of the Parkinson’s Foundation, found at parkinson.org/florida or Big Bend Hospice at 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, Florida 32308.
