TALLAHASSEE, FL – Mary Dee Gowan, 85, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, at home in Tallahassee. Â
She was born to Groves Arnold and Evelyn Adele Kelly (Morgan) on Jan. 12, 1939, in Jacksonville. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and beloved friend.
 Dee grew up in Telogia and graduated from Liberty County High School. She moved to Tallahassee in 1983 and worked as an administrative assistant for the Department of Transportation until she retired in 2001. After retirement she volunteered for a local assisted living facility.Â
She was a woman who truly cared about others and was always willing to lend a hand. She was a member of Thomasville Road Baptist Church. In her free time, Dee was a passionate gardener and she proudly created her own pepper sauce, Deevine, that she bottled and always had on hand.Â
She loved to spend time with her family and her beloved cat, Priya.Â
Dee is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Adele Kelly; and her son, Jimmy Ross Gowan, Jr.Â
She is survived by her sons, Trabon Scott Gowan and Stephen Kirk Gowan; her daughter, Rhonda Kelli Marcantoni (Wallace); her grandchildren, Ashli Hawthorne (Brian), Kansas Gowan, Brandon Marcantoni (Megan), Keturah Miller (Michael), Trey Gowan, Ren Gowan, and Andy Gowan; her great-grandchildren, Mackenna, Evelyn, Jackson, Baker, Zerin, Shilom, Gideon, and Malachi; and other family members and friends.
 A visitation will be held at Abbey Funeral Home in Tallahassee on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. ET.  The funeral will be held at Telogia Baptist Church on Friday, Sept. 20 at 12:30 p.m., followed by interment at Lake Mystic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Mary Dee Gowan to the American Cancer Society.
