TALLAHASSEE, FL – Michael Addis Free, 67, passed away on Dec.21, 2024, near Altha.

He was born on May 16, 1957 in Marianna to the late Addis and Delzia Free.

Mike was a lifelong resident of Tallahassee where he lived a life filled with joy, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.

He was a proud and devoted Mason of Jackson Lodge in Tallahassee. He cherished the time he spent with his Masonic brothers and lived by the principles of brotherhood, charity, and service.

For those who knew him well, Mike had a heart of gold. He was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. This quality was evident from a young age, as seen in his receipt of a state-level award for leading the evacuation of his elementary school bus following an accident.

A passionate motorcycle enthusiast, Mike was a highly skilled mechanic and the proud owner of Free’s Cycles. He also applied his mechanical expertise for many years to maintaining the fleet of Lawson’s Plumbing vehicles, earning respect for his skills and dedication.

In recent years, Mike dedicated much of his spare time to maintaining and improving the Free Family Homestead near Altha. He loved being there, spending time with his dogs, family and friends and tending to the property. He will now rest in peace in the place he cherished.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Helen Free; his son, Michael Free, and daughter-in-law, Rachel Free; his brother, Mitch Free, and sister-in-law, Mary Gray Free, along with their family. Mike’s life was a testament to benevolence, compassion and devotion, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A graveside service and a celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 11 a.m. CT on  Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 at the Free Family Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Russ officiating.  Fellowship at “The Barn” at the Free Family Homestead will follow the services.

All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown.
