BRISTOL, FL – On April 4, 1938, the late Dannie Black and the late Willie M. Black were blessed with a jewel with the birth of Sister Nancy Lee Bacon. Nancy was born and raised in Sweetwater (Bristol), Florida. She attended school in Liberty County.
She ventured for a few years to try out life as a New Yorker. Nancy met her late husband, Bobby Bacon, in 1965 in New York. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married on Feb. 24, 1971.
Nancy was introduced to the Lord at a very early age. She enjoyed watching the Word Network on television. She also had a passion for spiritual music and loved gospel quartet singers. Nancy was an active member of Pentecostal Faith United Church Incorporated, devoting her time and energy to praising and serving God.
Nancy was a very diligent worker and dedicated at least 18 years of her life working at the Liberty Intermediate Care Facility. She loved her occupation at Liberty ICF where she cared daily for disabled individuals. During her career, she worked in various positions serving and caring for others.
Nancy loved being sociable and talking on the phone with friends, family members and church members; however, her favorite role was being a grandmother. She treasured her time with her grandkids. Nancy also loved to cook, and she could certainly throw down in the kitchen. Many family members loved to come over to her house to get an aluminum-foiled wrapped “plate” with assorted delicious food. “Grandma Nancy” is remembered for cooking the best dressing, sweet potato pie, and collard greens for her loved ones each holiday. She will always be remembered for her unique catchphrases such as “you got to eat to live” or “sista gal.”
Nancy leaves to cherish her precious memories: her children: Patricia (Dallas) Hogans, from Crawfordville, Theodore (Gwendall) Black, Kathy Black, Felton (Mary Ann) Black, Anita (Ricky) Mitchell, and Bobbie Bacon Jr, all from Bristol; her siblings: Dorothy Jean Beckwith, Ruby Black, Danny (Vivian) Black, Jr., Leon Jerome (Francis) Black, Levola Ann Black, Milton (Veldina) Dawson, and Patricia Donar; her 21 grandchildren; her 54 great-grandchildren, her 12 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, in-laws, and loved ones.
Nancy was preceded in death by parents (Willie M Black and Danny Black), husband (Bobby Bacon), sisters (Pearlie Mae Cox, Iristine Johnson, and Rosa Lee Dawson) and grandson (Dave Peterson, Jr.). Nancy and her friends, Min. Linda Baker, Rose Dawson, Lima Sanders (deceased) were practically inseparable throughout their lives.
Nancy will always be remembered for being a god-fearing, compassionate, and loving woman. Her family states that they could not have asked for a better mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, sister, and friend and they will miss Nancy every day. Her memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her daily.
Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 at St. Luke Church of God in Christ in Bristol with Superintendent Delano Reed officiating. Nancy was laid to rest at Saint Stephens Cemetery in Bristol.
