Peggy Johnson
BRISTOL, FL – Peggy Johnson, 86, of Bristol, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, at her home.
Peggy was born in Geneva, AL on May 17, 1938 to the late Tank and Lois Early. She was raised in Samson, AL where she enjoyed spending time with her siblings and cousins.
She was active in the marching band, cheerleading and singing while in high school. Peggy was a natural beauty, winning many beauty pageant titles, including “Miss Summertime” at Troy State University while attending college.
She married her perfect partner, Jerry Johnson, who served as football and basketball coach for many years in Liberty County. She supported him as well as the players on the team and treated them as her own. She enjoyed attending the many ballgames he coached as well as supporting her children in their sports activities. She fully embraced the discipline and the joy of sports. She also enjoyed playing bridge in a weekly game with her dear friends in Bristol.
She loved children and operated a small daycare caring for many children from Liberty and Calhoun counties. She became known as “Ma Peg” to the many children in her care as well as her friends. She had a natural gift of making people around her comfortable and welcome. She was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Bristol and worshipped and served God by sharing Christ, His word and her testimony with many others.
Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Johnson; her parents, Tank and Lois Early; her son, Jay Johnson, and her siblings, Jerry Early and Tinkie Johnson.
Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Gay Johnson and her son, Lucas, and daughters Christy and Cydney, and Christy’s husband, Cassey; the youngest son, Jeff Johnson and his wife Nancy and daughter Shelbie; the sons of Jay Johnson, Kyle, Joel, Owen and their mother Cathy; her brother, Ellis Early, and her great-grandchildren, Camden, Sienna, Chase, Callie, Elaina and Laikyn.
Services to honor Peggy’s life were held at 12 p.m. CDT Monday, June 24 at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chis Goodman officiating. Interment followed in Lake Mystic Cemetery in Bristol.
