BRISTOL, FL – Robert Daniel (Danny) Gouge, 86, of Bristol passed away on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, at 4:07 p.m. Eastern time.

Danny was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the earlier years of his life, he lived in Poplar, NC and attended school there. His family moved to Slocomb, AL, when he was 14 years old where he attended and graduated from Slocomb High School in 1957. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving for over 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for Sony Corp and later the State of Florida Corrections Department, where he retired for a second time.

He loved his wife, family, music, country, and the First Baptist Church of Bristol.

Danny enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as Florida State Football. He loved supporting his community, by always showing up for the high school football team and the girls’ volleyball games. Danny was an exceptional singer who loved to share his passion for music by lending his voice to the choir at the First Baptist Church of Bristol. He was also a loving father, grandfather, and uncle.

Danny loved to indulge in Bigfoot conspiracy tales and joke around with his family and friends. He was a man who loved to learn and was always trying to learn new Spanish words from his granddaughters, Emilia and Alexa. Danny was a kind tender soul who loved unconditionally and was a leader in his family and community.

He is survived by his wife Anita Gouge, of Bristol; sons Jimmy Minton (Mia) and Cary Gouge; daughter Sandy Griffin (Leslie); brother Fred Gouge (Sandi); grandchildren Emilia Minton, Alexa Minton, Layton Griffin, LeAnn Griffin Neese, and Cory Gouge; nephews Cooper Gouge, Rod Hammerand, and Rick Hammerand; seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse B. Gouge and Hazel Gouge Raut, and his son Robert D. Gouge.

Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the First Baptist Church of Bristol with the visitation beginning at 10 a.m. EST and service starting at 11 a.m. EST. Interment will be at 3 p.m. EST at the Slocomb City Cemetery, also known as the Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery, in Slocomb, AL.

The family requests that instead of flowers, donations be made in Danny’s name to either the First Baptist of Bristol or a favorite charity.

All arrangements are under the direction of Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown.
