Shirley Bateman

BRISTOL, FL – Shirley W Bateman, 88, of Bristol, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024.

Shirley had lived in Bristol for 40 plus years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bristol and a member of the Red Hat Society.

Shirley was a big part of the Bristol school system, where she was an elementary teacher as well as the elementary music and arts coordinator director, Liberty County Preschool Principle, Bristol Elementary School Director of Instruction and Liberty County School’s president. She was a charter member of the Liberty County Women’s Club and a three-year chairperson, and served on the Liberty County Arts Council.

Shirley enjoyed her family, reading, tending to her many flowers and plants and seeing to her horses, cows, chickens, dog and cats on her farm in Bristol.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn H. Bateman; two sons, Chris Wayne Acree and Joseph G. Bateman; two grandchildren, Renee Youngblood and Christopher Acree, and her parents, Robert and Lottie Warren.

Shirley is survived by her children, Timothy A. Acree of Ocala,  James Howard Bateman and wife Christine of Blountstown and Debbie Acree of Bristol;  her grandchildren, Brian, Jay, Jill, Bonnie, Melodie, Jenny, Scooter, Julie, along with 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m.  (ET) at the First Baptist Church of Bristol.  Services will begin at 3 p.m.  (ET) with Pastor Thomas Howell officiating. Internment will follow at Lake Mystic Cemetery in Bristol.

All arrangements are under the Direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown.
