TALLAHASSEE, FL – Sonny B. Abbott, 82, of Tallahassee,  passed away on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, with his loved ones by his side.

The son of William Asa “Acey” Abbott and Martha Malone Adkins Abbott, he was born on Nov. 10, 1941, in Blountstown. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Joanna Alford Abbott;  a son, Jason Abbott and siblings, Joseph “Bill” Abbott, William Abbott, Carrie Elizabeth Tucker, Lucy Mae Abbott, and Sarah Frances Taylor.

Survivors include his three daughters, Krista Abbott, Amy Abbott-Darras (husband, Hussein) and Jeri Lynn Kleinert (husband, John); six grandchildren, Nora Darras, Raniya Darras-Musleh (husband Waleed), Summer Darras, Muhammad Darras, Radwan Darras and Nick Kleinert. He is also survived by one sibling, Ida Silva; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended friends and family.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator and woodsman for most of his life and retired from Shuler Brothers, Inc.

He was a sportsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting, watching television, especially football and wrestling. Sonny was a huge Florida State Seminole and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He enjoyed eating meals with family and playing his casino slot games on the computer.

He deeply loved his family, was a man of strong prayer and faith, and prayed daily for his family. Sonny was known as a gentle, humble, and kind man. He touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. He will be dearly missed.

The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Abbey Funeral Home in Tallahassee with a celebration of  life following at 2:30 pm.  Online condolences may be made at www.abbeyfh.com
