ALTHA, FL – Synthia “Sindy” Joan Foster, 78, of Altha, passed away peacefully while listening to the Eagles on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. 

She was born on Sept. 19, 1945 to the late Kenneth Walter Ames and Elsie Lorraine Hazelton in Cooperstown, New York.

She completed high school but later in life she went back to University of Tennessee and graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Human Ecology in 1998. She married the love of her life, Boyd “Lee” Foster, in 1977 in Knoxville, TN where they merged their lives and families together for the next 47 years.

Sindy was a lifelong seamstress along with craft aficionado. She belonged to the Busy Bees, National Quilting Association, and many other organizations that involved quilting and crafts in East Tennessee and Blountstown. 

She enjoyed a career working as a training specialist where she traveled and was in charge of multiple centers. In her spare time she spent time with her spouse going to estate sales and flea markets where she loved to find antiques and all things sewing, crafts, cats, and cows. 

After retirement she moved to Florida permanently and volunteered at the Library and spent time with her friends sewing and doing crafting. She also went to seminars to learn how to repair sewing machines and helped others with quilting problems. She was a collector of fabric swatches, beads, buttons, the color red, leopard and vibrant printed clothes. She was well known for her brightly colored and vibrant wardrobe where she always accessorized and was dressed to impress.

She is survived by Boyd “Lee” Foster Sr. and four children,  Boyd Foster Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Jeff (Betsy) Batey of Gates, NC, Susan Biswas of Leawood, KS and Cheree (Paul) Perry of Knoxville, TN. Additional survivors include her grandchildren, Cynthia (Lance) Mantooth, Joshua (Jamie) Foster, John Foster, Eric Biswas, Priya (Ollie) Biswas, Lisa Biswas, Mark Biswas, Nathaniel Haley, Paul (LeAnn) Perry, Cassandra (Jake) Bates and Sam (Brianna) Perry,  along with several great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held for family at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Loudon County, TN.

Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port Saint Joe, FL.

A special thank you to all of the wonderful friends that have been there for her including Sandy Voss, Sandy Niles, Julie and Rich Beasley, William “Bill” Hamil, Dr. Robin Albritton and his nurse, Arian. Your friendship meant so much and you were greatly loved by her.
